Every story centers on a conflict.  A conflict is the problem or
struggle that the main character faces.

~An
internal conflict is a struggle that takes place within a
character.  An internal conflict is a expressed through the
character's thoughts and actions.  The struggle often involves a
decision the character must make.

~An
external conflict is a struggle with a force outside of the
character, such as another character, society, or nature.

To determine the conflicts in a story, ask yourself:
~What problems or struggles does the main character face?
~Is each struggle external or internal?
